The book brings the vocabulary and physical properties of book making into a dialogue with the traditional poetic form of the eclogue: a pastoral poem which is often a conversation between two shepherds. The book pivots on the words gate and gatefold, and points both to Virgil and to Cutts' contemporaries in a series of intertextualizing notes.
